Esmeralda Montenegro Owen
Esmeralda Montenegro Owen returns to Gavilan College as an adjunct professor in Communication Studies. Her teaching journey began here at Gav in 2011 teaching Journalism and Television Production.
Owen holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Notre Dame de Namur University, and two Bachelor's in Broadcast Journalism and in Spanish from the University of Southern California (USC).
For 10 years, Owen worked as a news reporter and news anchor for Univision and Telemundo. She transitioned to exercise her talents in marketing, communications, and public relations for the National Steinbeck Center and later for Hartnell College, then led the non-profit Youth Orchestra Salinas as executive director. She has vast experience in leadership building, mentorship, public speaking, project management, bond consultation, and more.
In February 2019, Owen became a published author. Her book Beautiful, 7 Steps to the Best Version of You, is her first in a series of four. She enjoys family time, volunteering, mentoring, reading, writing, playing with her dog Max, and painting. She lives in Gilroy with her husband and son.
