PEDAGOGY PHILOSOPHY:
Veronica is committed to assisting diverse student groups in achieving their educational goals by developing their critical thinking, literacy, and 21st Century communication skills through the use of political, cultural and socially relevant rhetoric and media.
EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
- B.A. in Speech Communication with a minor in Business, SJSU
- M.Ed 21st Century Literacies, University of San Diego
Veronica attended San Benito High School and then began her coursework at Gavilan College. She then transferred to SJSU where she received a B.A. in Speech Communication with a minor in Business. Veronica then began her teaching career at Gilroy High School where she taught English and advised an award-winning journalism program and was a founding teacher at Christopher High School. Intrigued by the role media played in her students’ lives and learning, she completed her Masters in Education with an emphasis in Critical Media Literacies from the University of San Diego. As a first-generation college student who attended Gavilan College, Veronica identifies with the educational experiences of many of the students on our campus.
