South Bay Academy
Steps to use your GI Bill Benefits through South Bay Academy and Gavilan College:
Apply at South Bay Academy
Begin the enrollment process with South Bay Academy.
Apply to Gavilan College
Apply to Gavilan College. You will receive a student ID number through email within 48 hours. Please keep your student ID number for reference.
Apply for benefits from the VA
Apply to use your GI Bill Benefits through the VA: va.gov/education/how-to-apply or by paper VA Form 22.1990. The VA will review your file and determine if you're eligible for the GI Bill. You will then receive your Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) from the VA.
Submit Documentation
Submit your Certificate of Eligibility and DD214 form to VRC@gavilan.edu. Please include your Gavilan student ID. Email a legible document or you can drop off at the Veterans Resource Center located at the Gilroy campus.
Meet with a counselor
Schedule a meeting with the veteran counselor to creat an Ed Plan for your time at the Academy. Please call (408)848-4767 to schedule an appointment.
Note: Only classes refelcted on your Ed Plan will be vertified for benefits.
Class Enrollment
South Bay Academy will send your enrollment information to Gavilan's Admissions and Records office. A&R will enroll you in the courses.
Note: The School Certifying Official cannot certify your courses for educational benefits until A&R has completed your enrollment in South Bay Academy courses.
Certfication Request Form
Once enrolled, complete a Certification Request Form. A certification request form must be completed every semester. Please have your semester course information ready and information on sponsorship through departments.
