The Side Navigation Bar
Almost all pages have a Side Navigation Bar.
This is the main way that visitors can get around the various pages in your folder. It is important that you make links to anything they might need.
- You can link to your own pages
- You can link to other pages on our site
- You can link to anything on the web
- You can include text or graphics
Be careful that you don’t over-use this and make a confusing mess. Try to anticipate what they’ll need, and provide clear, helpful navigation and info.
To make changes to the Navigation Bar, click & edit the “dept-nav” item in your folder.
This block acts exactly like any other page: you can edit, add links, headers, even pictures.
Here is an example of an extensive side nav bar. Phone numbers, hours, and other contact info has been added, as well as links both inside and outside the folder.
Notice that it is still organized into groups. You can (should) use “Heading 4” style headlines … these will match the styles we use there.
Once you save changes to “dept-nav”, all pages in the folder that use it will be updated.
Warning: You still need to publish any page that’s been updated. It is usually fastest to publish the whole folder if you make changes to the side nav.
