Past Exhibitions
Past Art Exhibitions that took place at Gavilan College:
Ground: Paintings by Marlene Angeja and Manuel Angeja
Mother and son artists, Marlene and Manuel Angeja are painters based in the Bay Area. Both received MFAs from the California College of the Arts, 24 years apart. They have exhibited their work both locally and internationally, and are the recipients of numerous awards. Marlene’s work is included in various collections, and she taught in the Department of Art and Art History at San Jose State University for nineteen years.
Both are strongly connected to their roots in the Azores Islands.
Their abstract paintings share a raw, tactile sensibility, and an interest in materials and mark-making. Painting as process is central to both artists, with its inherent flaws and failures. Their work reveals the act of constructing an image through layering, obfuscation, destruction and construction.
Ground: Paintings by Marlene Angeja and Manuel Angeja runs from September 20 - October 31, 2018.
Past Reception in Gavilan College Library: Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 1:30 - 3:30PM.
