Information for graduates
Congratulations Gavilan College graduate! This ceremony marks the incredible journey you have completed at Gavilan College. It is an opportunity for you, your family and friends, and the Gavilan College community to celebrate your accomplishments! See last years photos.
Please review the information on this site carefully. Remember to provide this information to your family members/guests who will be attending, so they know what to expect on commencement day.

Graduation pre-planning: what you need to do before May 26th
April 14, 2023 – spring graduation petition due date: To determine your eligibility and apply for graduation, please schedule an appointment to meet with a counselor by visiting the counseling website www.gavilan.edu/counseling. You must submit a graduation petition by April 14th for your name to appear in the program. If you submit your graduation petition after April 14th, you may still participate in the ceremony (commencement), but your name will not appear in the program.
Ceremony registration
If you are planning on participating in the commencement ceremony, you must register your intent by completing the online commencement ceremony invitation/registration form. This event brite invitation/registration will be sent via email to all individuals who have submitted their graduation petition. The invitation/registration will be sent out beginning April 21st.
The deadline to register is May 21stNote: submitting your petition to graduate is not the same as registering to participate in the commencement ceremony! These are two different things! You must have completed your petition to graduate before you can register to participate in the commencement ceremony. You will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony if you have not registered by the May 21st deadline.
Ensure your name is correct in the commencement program
To ensure your name appears the way you want in the commencement program, beginning April 24th, you may visit the Welcome Center at the Gilroy Campus or contact the Welcome Center for online assistance. (Click the Welcome Center and follow the directions for online support.) To review how your name has been noted. Changes/corrections to names must be made by April 28th. Names can not be added or changed after this date.
