American College Health Association's National College Health Assessment
The American College Health Association’s - National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA) is a nationally recognized research survey that assists us in collecting precise data about Gavilan College students’ health habits, behaviors, and perceptions. This survey has been administered to over 2.2 million students at 1,000's of colleges and universities. The ACHA-NCHA helps us understand a wide range of health issues, including:
- Alcohol, tobacco and other drug use
- Sexual health
- Weight, nutrition and exercise
- Mental health
- Personal safety and violence
- Food insecurity and homelessness
- Hours of sleep
- And more!
At Gavilan College, the web-based survey was administered in a confidential manner to all Gavilan students over the age of eighteen during the Spring 2024 term. The results of the survey help inform our planning of programs and services to better meet the needs of Gavilan College students.
Nationally, the ACHA-NCHA Spring 2024 reference group consists of 103,639 students at 154 institutions, Gavilan College included.
Gavilan College sent the survey to about 4500 students and 400 responded, approximately 8.8% response rate.
Gavilan College disaggregated the data by our disproportionately impacted student groups identified in the 2022-2025 Equity Plan, first-generation, Asian or Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander (AANHPI), LGBTQ+, and those who identify as having some type of disability.
