One-Time Compensation & Update on PIO Vacancy
Dear Gavilan College Community,
I hope this email finds you well as we settle into the fall semester. It's already been a busy and exciting time! Last week, we celebrated a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for our future Library and Student Resource Center (LSRC). I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to be a part of this historic event. Your presence truly made it a special occasion.
Today, I'm delighted to share more positive news and express my sincere gratitude for your invaluable contributions to our college.
Over the past two years, through our collective efforts, we have achieved remarkable milestones. Together, we have strengthened our enrollment, solidified our financial position, and established a strong foundation for Gavilan College. Your dedication and hard work have been instrumental in our success.
I am pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a one-time compensation package for all regular, full-time, and part-time employees. This is in addition to the previously agreed-upon salary increases.
- A one-time payment of $1,500 for full-time employees with active assignments at the time of payment will be distributed in two installments at the end of Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.
- A one-time payment of $1,000 for part-time classified and faculty employees with active assignments at the time of payment will be distributed in two installments at the end of Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 (in addition to the previously agreed-upon one-time salary increases).
While we celebrate this achievement, I want to acknowledge our state's ongoing challenges. California’s budget is still under significant strain, and we must remain vigilant in our financial planning. California has a $46.8 billion budget shortfall for this year. The Governor's approved budget included $16 billion in reductions. The remaining budget deficit was temporarily addressed through state reserves, shifting funds, delays and pauses of future obligations, and deferrals. However, the state still has a lot of work to do to find permanent solutions to balance its budget.
By maintaining a solid financial position, we can better protect our college from potential future budget cuts and ensure the continued success of our students. This one-time compensation is made possible through careful budget management. It reflects our commitment to supporting our employees while maintaining a solid financial foundation for the college.
Your dedication to Gavilan College is inspiring, and I am truly grateful for your contributions. Appreciation and gratitude to our CSEA and GCFA leadership for their advocacy and collaboration.
