Celebrating Success and Building Our Future Together
A Vibrant Ram-O-Rama!
A huge shout-out to Dr. Craig-Marius, our incredible Student Services team, and everyone who provided support and participated in hosting a phenomenal Ram-O-Rama week! Your dedication made this year's Ram-O-Rama a resounding success. We welcomed over 1,000 high school seniors from across our service area, many of whom had never been to our campus. These future Gavilan students learned about our fantastic programs and services directly from our knowledgeable staff and current students. The positive feedback from their counselors and staff is a testament to the team's hard work. Thank you for your efforts in making Gavilan the college of choice for local students and for fostering a college-going culture!
Enrollment Soars!
Here's another reason to celebrate! This spring semester, we saw an incredible 20% increase in enrollment, following an impressive 23% jump from last spring. This brings our total student body for this semester to over 7,000, a milestone not achieved since Spring 2016! This tremendous growth wouldn't be possible without every one of you. Thank you for being so dedicated to providing a top-notch educational experience that attracts students and makes Gavilan College one of the state's fastest-growing colleges!
Honoring the Land
Our Board of Trustees recently approved a Land Acknowledgement that will be read at the start of their meetings. A land acknowledgment is a statement that recognizes the history and presence of Indigenous Peoples and their relationship as stewards of the land. I'm sharing the Land Acknowledgement below and encourage you to use it at the beginning of college gatherings and events.
"We acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band of Ohlone/Costanoan Indians. We formally recognize and respect the Amah Mutson as the traditional stewards of this land known as Popeloutchom. The Amah Mutson continue to carry out their obligation given to them, they believe, by Creator to care for their traditional lands, water, and forests with neighboring tribes."
Empowering Upward Mobility
We're excited to announce our participation in the Central Coast K-16 Collaborative, a powerful initiative uniting 25 school districts, 11 community colleges, five universities, and industry partners. With a shared vision of addressing the region's long-standing educational and economic inequities, the Collaborative has secured an impressive $18 million federal grant. Gavilan College will receive $56,615 in the first funding cycle to support Health Careers programs. This collaboration presents tremendous potential to create a stronger future filled with upward mobility opportunities for all our students.
