Faculty Staffing Committee - Approved Faculty Positions
Dear College Community,
The California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 5 Section 51025, requires community college districts to increase their base full-time faculty obligation number (referred to as FON) over the prior year in proportion to the growth in funded credit FTES.
Based on the recommendations of the Academic Staffing Committee (ASC), I am approving the following eight (8) faculty positions (in alphabetical order below). These positions will ensure our district meets the 75 Full-Time Faculty Obligation Number (FON) needed for the state's Emergency Conditions Allowance (ECA). This includes two temporary positions currently filling vacancies counting towards our FON and six new positions required by the state's Emergency Conditions Allowance.
Please note that I'd like to recommend that we anchor two of these faculty positions at our new San Benito Campus. I look forward to establishing a San Benito Campus Oversight Committee to decide which two positions will best meet the needs of students at the new San Benito Campus.
- Biology
- Communications
- Cosmetology
- ESL – Non-Credit
- History/Ethnic Studies*
- Kinesiology - Volleyball
- Nursing
- Philosophy
* The committee recognizes that Ethnic Studies and History/Ethnic Studies were separate applications; however, the recommendation is to work with the department to determine if they can start with one joint-appointed position to meet the immediate needs for the short term.
Additionally, the following four (4) categorical/grant-funded positions are approved.
- Adapted Physical Education Instructor (Categorical)
- Bilingual Mental Health Counselor (Categorical non-tenured track)
- Stem Counselor (Grant)
- Water Management (Categorical non-tenured track)
Recruitment for approved positions will begin in spring 2023 with a start date of fall 2023. As always, the final hiring of these positions is contingent upon adequate funding and the Board of Trustees' approval. Departments with approved positions should look for a follow-up email from Human Resources on opening these recruitments.
I sincerely thank the Academic Staffing Committee (ASC) for its efforts toward this year's faculty staffing process and for considering the needs of students, departments, and our organization. Also, thanks to Wade Grant for providing faculty and the Staffing Committee with the necessary data to inform their process.
Best Regards,
Dr. Pedro Avila
