About Me
I’ve been teaching English at Gavilan College since 1998 and have lived in Hollister since 2002 where I’ve raised an amazing daughter who is off to college and continue to raise the best middle schooler ever. This year, I’ll be teaching only at the Hollister Briggs building despite the construction that is going to make teaching and learning even more of a challenge.
My 1A classes focus on issues of gender, feminism, and sexism while my 280 class delves into issues of immigration, race, and racism. Naturally, my 1C class tackles both gender and race (a huge undertaking). My courses all involve personal, hands-on learning, oral presentations, and group work as well as intense reading, writing, and research. Students of all backgrounds and beliefs are welcome to join my classes and engage in respectful and informed dialogue.
Currently I co-chair the English Department with Scott Sandler. All students are invited to contact me about any questions or concerns around their English classes or placement. I hope to help and inspire you to engage in reading and writing as a meaningful individual and societal pursuit.
