Dr. Bradley M. ("Brad") Stone
Stone now hosts “The Creative Source” (featuring new jazz releases) and “A Passport to Prog” (featuring progressive rock and jazz) on SoulandJazz.com radio – a worldwide internet radio platform based in the UK, and has done so since 2013. He is passionate about programming for younger audiences, and introducing and educating a new generation about this wonderful musical idiom. He also champions radio airplay and greater exposure for new and current “living” artists and jazz composers on his weekly show “The Creative Source”. A native of Chicago, he firmly believes that growing up there means that “jazz, and the blues, are in the blood”. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Jazz Organ Fellowship; the Advisory Board for San Jose Jazz; the Board of the JaZzLine Institute; and has been involved in helping with the San Jose Jazz Festival (e.g. emceeing, programming, etc.) since its inception. His is currently on the Book Award Nomination Committee for the Jazz Journalists Association. He also regularly emcees at the Monterey Jazz Festival annually, Café Stritch in San Jose, and Café Pink House in Saratoga, CA. He has been a regular member of the press team at the Heineken Jazzaldia in San Sebastían, Spain for the past 8 years, and will return in July, 2021.
Stone began organ lessons at the age of 11, playing tunes from musicals. He played keyboards (organ and synth), and a little bit of guitar, in a rock band during his undergraduate days, who and performed their own music. He has also taken classical and jazz piano lessons. He has an array of keyboards at his home, including 3 Hammond organs! His music collection consists of approximately 45,000 albums (CDs, LPs, digital files, etc.) of jazz, progressive rock, electronic music, world music and many other genres.
Stone is Professor Emeritus of Chemistry, and is a former Chair of the Department of Chemistry at San Jose State University. While at SJSU, he also taught courses in Radio Station Management, On Air Operations and Radio Production within the Radio, TV and Film Department.
Stone is now an Adjunct Instructor at Gavilan Community College in Gilroy, CA.
