Welcome to your Gavilan Security Department,
We are honored to serve the faculty, staff, and students of the Gavilan Community College District. The Gavilan College Security Department, along with local police and sheriff's departments, provides law enforcement and public safety services to the Gilroy, Hollister, and Coyote Valley sites along with emergency aid to the surrounding communities when needed. Our department’s mission is to assist the education process by providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students, staff, and the community through: Education, Safety, and Service.
The Gavilan College Security Department exists in order to protect the members of the college community and the property of Gavilan College. Under the general direction of the Vice President of Administrative Services and the Director of Security & Support Services, the security department insures that reasonable protection is provided by using methods that fit within and contribute to the educational philosophy of the institution.
We are proud to offer a wide range of services in addition to our law enforcement responsibilities. These services include medical aid, campus escorts, stranded motorist assistance, and crime prevention information among many others. Authority of Security and Working Relationship with State and Local Police:
Gavilan College maintains a close working relationship with the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol, the Morgan Hill Police Department, and the Hollister Police Department. The authority of uniformed Gavilan Security Officers is defined in the California Penal Code, section 834.
Gilroy and Coyote Valley: Crimes on the Gilroy or Coyote Valley Campuses are reported to the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department.
Hollister: Crimes occurring on the Hollister campus are reported to the Hollister Police Department.
Gavilan Security assists these departments and the victim in the investigation of crimes occurring on any Gavilan campus.
