History of the United States from the end of the Civil War to the present day. Emphasis will be placed on distinctive patterns of political, economic, social, intellectual, and geographic developments within their global context. At the conclusion of the course the student should understand major themes in the history of the United States, and be able to explain various ways in which ethnicity, class and gender divisions have influenced the nation's development. The Mexican American experience as influenced by society in the United States. Emphasis will be on the historical and contemporary contributions made by the Indian, Spanish, Mexican, and Mexican American. Emphasis will also be on the social, economic, and political milieu of the Mexican American within the context of the American society. |
