THEA 3:    El Teatro Campesino

This short term course includes the viewing and discussion of the work of El Teatro Campesino and Founder/Artistic Director, Luis Valdez from 1965 to the present. Live theatrical productions, films and plays created and produced by ETC will be studied.

THEA 12A:    Acting: History and Practice

An introduction to the historical development of acting as a practice of human cultural expression. Students will acquire a vocabulary for theatre performance as an art form and analyze dramatic works in a historical context. Practice of basic acting concepts, character analysis, preparation and performances of monologues and scenes will be required in the course.

THEA 16:    Introduction to Television

An introductory course on the history of television as a major communications tool. Students will learn skills for effective script writing, production techniques, and post-production procedures.

THEA 17B:    Television and Video Workshop

Emphasis will be placed on production and post-production techniques in video production. Students will increase knowledge and skills by participating in live or taped projects produced in the Gavilan Television Studio. Course may be repeated twice for credit.

THEA 19:    Television and Film Acting

Theory and practice of acting for film and video. Student will learn basic performance techniques for the camera. Learning experiences will include projects in broadcasting, narration, reporting, and commercial, comedies and dramas.

THEA 22:    Field Work and Service
Required:: Learning contracts must be filled out and signed by the student and the supervising instructor.
Transferable: CSU
Supervised field work within the college and with local agencies. Students serve in useful group activities in leadership roles prescribed for them by faculty or community agencies. A maximum of six units may be completed. This is a credit/no credit course.

THEA 23:    Independent Study
Required:: The study outline prepared by the student and the instructor must be filed with the department and the dean.

Designed to afford selected students specialized opportunities for exploring areas at the independent study level. The courses may involve extensive library work, research in the community, or special projects. May be repeated until six units of credit are accrued.
