PHYS 1:    Introduction to Physics

An introduction to the concepts of mechanics, thermodynamics, fluids, waves, electricity, magnetism, and modern physics. Laboratories will emphasize the integration of physics with modern technology.

Prerequisite:: Physics 2A

Study of light and optics, electricity and magnetism, and an introduction to modern physics including special relativity, Bohr model of atom, quantum mechanics, fission, fusion and elementary particles.

PHYS 4A:    Physics for Sci/Engr--Mechanics/Fluids/Waves
Prerequisite:: Physics 2A and Mathematics 1A
Transferable: CSU; UC; CSU; CAN: PHYS SEQ. B
A calculus based study of the fundamental principles of mechanics, fluid mechanics and waves. Vectors, particle kinematics and dynamics, work and energy, conservation of momentum, rotational kinematics and dynamics, oscillatory motion, fluid mechanics, sound and mechanical waves. Students gain experience in the application of computers in science.
