THEA 12A:    Acting: History and Practice

An introduction to the historical development of acting as a practice of human cultural expression. Students will acquire a vocabulary for theatre performance as an art form and analyze dramatic works in a historical context. Practice of basic acting concepts, character analysis, preparation and performances of monologues and scenes will be required in the course.

An individualized course in technical theatre production for the performing arts. Areas of study include: scenery, lighting, props, costumes, sound, make-up, public relations/box office management or stage management. May be repeated until a maximum of 9 units are accrued.

THEA 19:    Television and Film Acting

Theory and practice of acting for film and television. Students will learn basic performance techniques for the camera. Learning experiences include projects in broadcasting, reporting, commercials, public service announcements (psa), comedy and drama. This course has the option of a letter grade or credit/no credit. THEA 20:    Introduction to Scriptwriting

THEA 22:    Field Work and Service
Required: Learning contracts must be filled out and signed by the student and the supervising instructor.
Transferable: CSU
Supervised field work within the college and with local agencies. Students serve in useful group activities in leadership roles prescribed for them by faculty or community agencies. A maximum of six units may be completed. This is a credit/no credit course.
