PE 2 | Introduction to Physical Education |
This course is designed to examine the field of physical education from a historical and contemporary viewpoint. The student will be provided with an understanding of the development of physical education programs and the role of physical education in modern American society. The many component parts of physical education such as exercise, sports medicine, health/wellness, and the science of human performance will be covered. The course will cover many basic concepts in other related fields such as anatomy, physiology, nutrition, anthropology, psychology, and medicine/health. No specific course work in these subjects is required, but would be helpful. A portion of the course will be devoted to "mini-labs" where students will be able to participate in fitness testing, exercise programming, and practical experience in different forms of exercise and weight training. Students will learn to apply the knowledge gained in the lecture and "mini-labs" towards the prevention of personal, family, and community health problems. |

PE 3 | Introduction to Athletic Training |
An introductory course in athletic training/sports medicine. This course will familiarize the novice with basic knowledge and basic skill level needed to become an athletic trainer. The course will cover anatomy/physiology, first aid, rehabilitation, injury recognition/evaluation/management, report writing/record keeping, facilities maintenance/supply ordering. Also included is hands-on participation at sporting events. |
