Board Facilities Sub Committee Minutes

Wednesday, July 27, 2005

  Committe Members: Tom Breen, Mark Dover and Debra Smith
  Committe Resources: Merle Cannon, Dave Cartnal, Art Kerr, Steve Kinsella, and Casey Michaelis

1) Call Meeting to Order: Trustee Tom Breen called the meeting to order.
2) Approve Minutes: Minutes from the April 25, 2005 meeting were approved by consensus.
3) Comments from the Public: No comments.
4) Information Item:  
 
  1. Land Use (Gavilan Golf Course): Steve Kinsella reported that a financial and environmental analysis is being performed on the potential land use for the golf course.
  2. Coyote Valley Update: Steve Kinsella said that things are progressing with the City of San Jose and that the Gavilan site is included in the Coyote Valley Specific Plan. The mayoral situation will have an impact.
  3. Status of Other Projects: Art Kerr reported that the installation of the baseball scoreboard will be completed by August 5, 2005. The renovation of the chapel is complete. The asphalt is completed for tennis court renovation project and will need to cure for several weeks. The project should begin again in two to three weeks with anticipated completion within the 60 day contract period.

    Steve Kinsella recommended holding an open house for the public to view the chapel renovation.
  4. Preview for Sub Committee Critique: Dave Cartnal (BFGC Architecture), Casey Michaelis (Kitchell CEM), and Merle Cannon (Cannon) previewed, for subcommittee review and comment, the “Gavilan College Master Plan 2005 for Bond Program Planning and Expenditures” presentation that is on the agenda for the August 9 Board of Trustees meeting and Staff Development Day.. Several minor recommendations were made.

    Dave Cartnal presented the subcommittee with copies of the following documents:

    Draft Facilities Master Plan 2005
    Draft Accessibility Compliance Survey
    Draft Architectural Materials and Equipment Standards
    Draft Facilities Standards for Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical

    Trustee Tom Breen suggested that copies be made available to the public in Hollister, Morgan Hill and Gilroy.
