  1. Report from Community Education Director

Terry Newman reviewed the Contract and Community Education Annual Report, July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010. Discussion included the following:

    • Enrollments for Community Education were initially low, though they improved by the end of the fiscal year. The development and enrollments of the Water Training programs have been a success. Workforce Investment Board referred clients to our class offerings, particularly the Pharmacy Technician and Water Training.
    • Current economic factors are influencing the enrollments for College for Youth. We continue to investigate different scheduling patterns new classes.
    • Online classes enrollments were low, and Ed2go, our online provider raised their prices. In the spring semester, we started offering UGotClass, a new online program, and it has been well received. We expect online class enrollments to increase as the economy improves.
    • Corporate training has been down this year, though we continue contracting with Workforce Institute, Gilroy One-Stop Center, Service Employees Union International, and Interactive Solutions. We completed the second year of the Industry Driven Regional Collaborative grant, and received a subcontract from San Jose City College to provide Organic Gardening.
    • The motorcycle safety training program enrollments were down due to the current economic situation, and the Monterey military base opened their own motorcycle training facility.
    • We will continue to provide a printed schedule, which is our most important marketing method.
    • We will continue to search for off-site facilities for class offerings. Classes offered at our off-sites have been cancelled due to low enrollments, and coordination continues to be a challenge due to our instructors not having keys or access keys to the sites.

The report will be presented at the October 12, 2010 Board of Trustees meeting.

4) Adjourned. Meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
