1) Call Meeting to Order: The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.
2) Comments from the Public: No comments from the public.

3) Discussion Item(s):

  1. Update on Athletic Programs

    Information on an athletic stadium was presented. The approximate cost would be $8-12 million. There is no opportunity for state funding, but there is a possibility that golf course revenue could be used to help pay for some costs. The cost of the plans presented ($3,500) were paid for by the Educational Foundation. The subcommittee stated a concern about how this project might impact the current land acquisitions. The subcommittee recommended holding off further work on this project for 6 months and forwarding to the Foundation for review at their next meeting. The subcommittee will review in 3 months.

    Status Report on Improvement to Women's Athletics

    The field is now released from the contract with the City of Gilroy, which allows Gavilan to go forward with installing the scoreboard and fence. Trustee Dover suggested that artificial turf be installed for the baseball field, which would eliminate the need for a groundskeeper position.

    It was noted that the sample of players interviewed for the Female Athletics Study (Brown Associates) was small which led to a delay in obtaining the report. Steve will ask Ron to develop an outreach approach and plan for additional marketing efforts. The approximate cost would be $20,000 - $30,000. The college needs to improve contact with high schools and find a way to get sports camps back on campus. A suggestion was made to honor coaches and teams for a good season and to acknowledge a "sport of the month". Steve will acknowledge Susan Dodd, 2007 SCOPE Educator of the Year, at the May board meeting for

Men's soccer is scheduled for the fall and coaches have indicated that men's soccer tends support women's soccer.

4) Adjourned. Meeting adjourned at 4:52 p.m.
