consists of ten chapters, each focusing on a theme: music, Mayan civilization, the working world, hobbies and

description, narration, and comparison that students already use in other areas of their academic lives.

Development and transfer of cognitive skills
| Supports students in applying their well-developed skills from other course
areas to communication in a second language. |
A culture-centered approach to language learning
| Engages students in analysis and research on historical, cultural, and
artistic expressions of the Spanish-speaking world. |
Systematic presentation of literature of the Spanish-speaking world
| Encourages students to make connections between the cultural themes within
the chapters and the literary manifestations. |
Straightforward presentation of grammar
