Sandra was born in Colombia. She came to Illinois in 2000 where she finished her Master’s Degree in Foreign
Languages with emphasis in Spanish Literature and a Master’s degree in Business and Administration at Southern
Illinois University. She has held part-time teaching Spanish positions at Arizona Western College, Triton College
and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She taught at The Willows Academy as a full time teacher for two
years (College Preparatory High School in Chicago), teaching Spanish I to IV and AP classes until the second
equivalent year of Spanish at the college level.
She is currently working at Gavilan College and at the University of California in Santa Cruz. She has taught
Digital Spanish and Spanish through the Interactive Television Network (ITN) at the university level. She has also
taught Spanish for the Upward Bound program for three years through Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
She likes to teach using technology. She likes to know other cultures and travel as well. She has been to Bolivia,
Ecuador, Venezuela, Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, and Canada. She likes to swim, hike, rock climb and play
tambourine and castanets also. Sandra just came to the Santa Cruz area last August and she is happy enjoying this
wonderful weather and views.
Sandra met her husband at Southern Illinois University. They live in Santa Cruz, CA with their dog Reina.
