Construction in progress on the Gavilan College Gilroy campus
Visitors and students will be sure to notice a lot of construction activity on the Gavilan College campus this summer. The work, which began as soon as the Spring semester ended, will create a "quad" area for the Gilroy Ealry College Academy (GECA), make improvements to the campus water system, expand Parking Lot "C", and create a southern exit from Parking Lot "C."
The Gavilan College Facilities department and Gilbane Building Company will be posting weekly updates in order to inform staff, students, and the public regarding the construction on campus. All members of the campus community are reminded to heed safety signage and stay outside the fenced construction areas.
Parking Lot "C" will not be available for parking during the construction period.
The work that began on June 2, 2014 is as follows:
1)Water Storage Tank & Well distribution System. This job will involve trenching on the Loop Road throughout campus. Closures and detours will be indicated by signage and flaggers.
2)Parking Lot C Extension. This job will include the grading and extension Parking Lot C and will eventually allow through traffic onto the south entrance of the campus. Road grading equipment will be occasionally travelling between Parking Lot H and the construction zone.
3)GECA – The GECA campus is being built on the north side of parking lot C; this work will be cause closure of Lot C for the summer.
4)Some energy savings jobs during July or August will include lighting on in all of the parking lots along with the installation of a new pool pump with a Variable Frequency Drive.
