Gavilan College 2011 Marian Filice Youth Piano Competition and Music Festival Winner will perform at Bach to Blues!

WHO:  Piano students ranging from 5th - 12th grades will be competing. Making their performance debut this year will be the 7-year-old twins of event organizers (and husband and wife) Albert Marques and Maria Amirkhanian.

Competing in the Junior Division: Vivian Zhang, Sammy Varma, Frank Zhang, Susanna Silva, Murray Kornelsen, Marina Johnson, Alex Chien, Nikki Chen, Adena Chen

Competing in the Senior Division: Mingtao Yang, Daphne Wu, Anna Martin, Kyle Kwong, Andy Kuang, Cindy Kang, Jerry Kuang, Satthea Khay

Performing in the Festival: Dominique Marques, Jade Marques, Serena li, Hana McElroy, Ksenia Medvedeva, Crystal Li, Niet Khay, Anthony Weldner, Ryan Morton, Ajay Singh, Michelle Kuang, Maxim Medvedev, Anthony Ajlouni, Long Bui, Andy Kuang, Kyle Kwong

Judges: Joseph Ordaz ,  chair of the Music Department at Mission College  and Dominic Serrano , a private instructor in the Bay Area.

WHAT: The 6th Annual Marian Filice Youth Piano Competition, an opportunity for local young pianists to perform and compete for scholarships and the opportunity to participate in the annual Bach to Blues! concert. At the conclusion of the auditions, finalists will be named to perform in the evening competition. Contestants are expected to have prepared two contrasting pieces from the classical repertoire performed by memory (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary). The winner of the Senior Division competition will be invited to play at the Gavilan Bach To Blues Concert on March 5.

Competition:  10:00 AM - 1 p.m.
Festival/Concert:  3:00 PM
Award Ceremony:  5:00 PM

WHY:  Marian Filice was a supporter of music and arts education, and she taught piano locally for many years. The generous support of the Filice family makes this competition possible.  It is their goal to encourage students to strive for musical excellence and to create an opportunity for them to share their talents with the entire community.
