Train for a career in the solar industry with Gavilan College Community Education and Pacific Technical College

WHO: Gavilan College Community Education, in partnership with Pacific Technical College

WHAT: is bringing a program of solar and "green tech" training to Gilroy. Two programs will be offered: a forty-hour option in Solar PV Installation, Design, and Integration, and a sixty-hour option that also includes AutoCAD. These are fee-based programs: $1,600 for the forty-hour program, and $2,490 for the sixty-hour program.

Terry Newman, Director of Contract and Community Education at Gavilan College said, "We are delighted to partner with PTC to provide solar training opportunities, and to bring these training opportunities to Gilroy, as Silicon Valley is fast becoming the national hub of this industry. "

Simone Sadri, of Pacific Technical College said, "Through this unique partnership Gavilan and PTC will collaborate to deliver new solar training courses addressing topics such as CAD4SOLAR, solar sales and marketing, solar financing, power purchase agreements, solar rebate and incentive programs, energy efficiency, smart grid integration, feed-in tariffs, solar manufacturing technology, and many other emerging competency areas vital for career changers looking to transition into the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector."


WHEN: Classes meet on Fridays, 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on the weekends of October 29-31, November 5 - 7, and November 19-21 (AutoCAD only)

Solar PV Installation, Design and Integration (40 hours) - $1,600

The solar industry is going to have tremendous growth in the near future. This 40-hour course is for individuals who are interested in entering this expanding field while applying their transferable skills. This course includes a comprehensive Solar PV installation, design and estimation of finance. Special focus will be placed on photovoltaic systems industry, equipment and technologies; solar radiant and solar energy fundamentals; site survey, planning and system sizing; solar PV components and configuration; mechanical and electrical integration and utility connection; permitting and inspection; maintenance and trouble shooting; economic payback, ROI, energy saving and state and federal incentives and rebates. Pre-requisites include high school diploma or equivalent; English and Math proficiency and knowledge of electronics.This course is designed to enable engineers, technicians, architects, licensed or journeyman electricians, general contractors, and other home-improvement contractors to add solar to their existing service offerings. This course is also appropriate for those who have taken a basic PV Design and Installation program or people with a working knowledge of PV system design.
