GAVILAN COLLEGE - On Wednesday April 1, 2009, the Gavilan College Student Center became ground zero in "Hair Wars," the 2009 Spring Style Show. Students in the Gavilan College Cosmetology Department competed to create dramatic, often startling looks with towering hairdo's, exotic makeup, and flashy style.

The judging panel of  Toby Vierra of BSG - Beauty Systems Group, Shairon Zingsheim of Gavilan College, Beverly Hills make-up artist Arnell, and KC Adams, Owner of Cuts and Colors in Gilroy evaluated each model and selected the winners.

Third Place went to Rendition of Flamingo, with model Tiffany Dane, hair by Lindsay Pozzi, Mike-up by Gia Firato, and Nails by Stephanie Vaccaro.

Second Place was awarded to Shape Shifters, with model Chloe Hernandez, Hairstylist Nidia Ortega, Make-up by Michelle Pasillas and Nails by Griselda Reynoso.

The First Place award went to Mermaids, modeled by Jewlea Luna and Melanie Abercrombie, with Hair and Nails by Whitney Trujillo and Kyle Copeland, and Make-up by Maribel Aguayo.

The Gavilan Colllege Cosmetology department offers instruction to both men and women in all phases of cosmetology. The Scientific Skin Care (Esthetics) certificate program offers a comprehensive skin care program. Both fulfill the requirements set forth by the California State Barbering and Cosmetology Program and are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Graduates are prepared to take the Barbering and Cosmetology Program license examination and for competency in employment.
