WHO: Gavilan College Student Health Services and Community Solutions
WHAT: April is Sexual Awareness Month. Every 5 minutes in the State of California, a person is sexually assaulted. Statewide there will be coordinated displays of flags raised --each flag representing a person -- to raise awareness about sexual violence. On Tuesday, April 1st at the Gavilan College main campus, a flag will placed every 5 minutes on the knoll just north of the Student Center. In Hollister, flags will be placed on the green lawn area adjacent to the Briggs Building.
In addition to the flag displays, there will be staffed tables with information.
WHEN & WHERE:
Staffed information tables: April 1st from 7a.m.-7p.m at the Gilroy campus and the Hollister Briggs Building
Activities will culminate April 23rd on International Denim Day (http://www.dhss.mo.gov/WomensHealth/DenimDay/Proclamation.doc).
All are encouraged to wear denim on Wednesday, the 23rd to show support!
Local women in our community have decorated jeans to bring attention to this event.
This art display of jeans will be at the Gavilan College Briggs Building from April 7th-11th.
The Hollister City Council will have a proclamation on the 7th of April.
The art display of jeans will be at the Gavilan College Morgan Hill site from April 14th through the 23rd.
WHY: AB 1088, passed in 2006 requires education in Sexual Assault for all college students statewide, and brings attention to the need for awareness of prevention activities around Sexual Assault.
