WHO: The Gavilan College Board of Trustees announces the winners of the 2007 Community Spirit Awards for San Benito County
Individual - Cilly Fisher
The nomination for Cilly Fisher was effusive: "The time and devotion that she contributed to the San Benito Chamber of Commerce for several years has been incredible. She worked extensively in the office helping with relief time, mailings , organizing and any number of othre duties. In addition, she was for years oon the staff of the Chamber Ambassadors showing up at ...new businesses, ribbon cuttings, mixers, and other events where volunteer help was needed. When the Chamber of Commerce in San Juan Bautista got into somewhat of a state of disarray, Cilly was at the ready...She has even gone to the extent of showing up at 2 a.m. to help organize street fairs, etc. She judged parades, worked in the office, all making her services invaluable." She has also volunteered with the Homeless Task Force. Although the extent of her voluntarism would be impressive for anyone, in Cilly's case it is doubly inspirational, as she turned 81 this year.
Business - Hollister Supermarket
Hollister Supermarket at their sister market in San Juan Bautista have contributed donations to numerous clubs, sports teams, schools, and events. "They are often asked to help with community needs, and when they are asked, they always come through."
Organization - Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital
Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital celebrated 100 years of service to the community in 2007. In that time, countless county residents have been helped by their local hospital. Almost every family has been touched by the people at Hazel Hawkins.
Last year's winners in San Benito County were Jeana Arnold, Damm Good Water, and SHARP (Specialized Hollister Activities and Recreation Program)
