WHO: Gavilan College Professor r2row in collaboration with the Art4service program, the Gilroy Unified School District, the GHS Parent/Teacher Club and the students and administrative staff at Gilroy High School, proudly present the unveiling of the mural of Hispanic civil rights activist Cesar E. Chavez.
WHAT: Members of Gavilan College and Gilroy High School's mural painting classes, faculty and staff have participated in the creation of this mural. It is painted in the Gilroy High School Library honoring Cesar Chavez, the person the building is dedicated to.
On Friday, May 18th, the mural classes of Gavilan College and Gilroy High School will unveil the mural to the community. The celebration will include an entire day of educational events for GHS students.
The official unveiling ceremony will take place during lunch from 12:00 p.m.-1 p.m. at the Gilroy High School Cesar E Chavez Library. The ceremony will begin with a performance by Aztec dance group, Izacalli. This will be followed by guest speaker Ms. Rita Chavez-Medina, sister of the late Cesar Chavez. Ms. Chavez-Medina will be sharing thoughts about her brother and his work with the UFW.
This event will be honoring a great American hero and perhaps more importantly, remind us of the social injustices he fought so hard against.
