GILROY, CA - Target has approved a grant of $3,000 through their Community of Giving Program for the Gavilan College Child Development Center. The grant will be used to purchase books for the literacy area that complements the preschool curriculum.
The Gavilan College Child Development Center is developing a literacy area for the children and parents of the center. Children and parents will be encouraged to check books out so the parents can read to their children at home. Most of the center's parents are students and /or working and therefore extremely busy. By making the lending library convenient, it is hoped that more parents will read to their children at home. The books will enhance the "Read, Play and Learn" curriculum that us used in the classroom.
Target is committed to giving back to the communities in which they operate stores. This year, they will give over $2 million a week to nonprofit organizations nationwide.
