Gavilan College Students Win Big at 2005 American Criminal Justice Association Conference in Long Beach

GILROY, CA - The Gavilan College chapter of Lambda Alpha Epsilon (LAE) once again distinguished itself at the Region 1 (California, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and Alaska) Conference of the American Criminal Justice Association held in Long Beach CA last weekend. Students excelled in academic and tactical competitions held annually in various skills relating to police work.

Winning the most awards was Neal Oppenheimer, who took 1st Place in Criminal Law, 1st Place in Handgun Marksmanship, 1st Place in Writing, 2nd Place in Police Management, 3rd Place in Juvenile Justice, and 3rd Place in Corrections. A team including Gavilan College, Sacramento State, and Hanfords Police Department was awarded 1st Place in Crime Scene Investigations Gavilan College student Janay Church took 2nd Place in Juvenile Justice,

This year's conference included chapters from nine universities and colleges and well as police agencies, and at-large members. The Gavilan College Administration of Justice program continues its winning tradition, having won similar academic competitions last spring at the national conference in Memphis and at last year's regional conference in Fresno. The Gavilan College chapter, known as Chi Sigma Iota, was formed in 2002.
