Gavilan College to present 2005 Community Spirit Awards for Morgan Hill

WHO:

Friends of the Library (Organization): An all-volunteer organization which raises money for the Morgan Hill Library by holding two monthly booksales on the first Saturday and third Wednesday of every month. they sort books, staff the library bookstore, and advovate for the library in the community. they are currently working to raise funds and awareness for the new library building.

Jennifer Tate (individual):Jennifer Tate has been a resident of Morgan Hill for 30 years. She has served on many organizations in both leadership roles and as a committee member. These boards and committees she has served on have all brought great pride and recognition to this city.
•Member of Morgan Hill Rotary
•Chair person of Leadership Excellence Award Dinner for past 2 years. Has brought honor and distinction to this program, raising over $80,000 in two years with a black tie dinner, honoring a leader in the community.
•Chair person of Centennial Morgan Hill. This steering committee is organized to celebrate the 100 year birthday of Morgan Hill in 2006. A two year commitment is given by this group to dedicate each month of 2006 in celebration .
•Board member of the Historical Society of Morgan Hill.
•Coordinates the annual Founders' Day dinner, honoring pioneers who have lived in Morgan hill over 50 years.
•Served on the City of Morgan Hill Community & Cultural Center opening, assisting the Mayor's Ball.

Associated Concrete (Business): Owner Anthony Goularte is a Kiwanian and is very active in Morgan Hill, often as a behind-the-scenes donor to projects. He was nominated by a community member, who wrote: "Anthony has been a part of the community for 50 years. He has been a member of Kiwanis Club for probably 25 years. During that time, Anthony has given generously of his time and money to support many of the different segments of Morgan Hill. Whether it was the donation of concrete, money or his own labor to build and support such things as "Spirit of Morgan Hill", playgrounds, women's shelters, hanging flags downtown, ChildSpree, putting up Xmas decorations, Anthony Goularte (Associated Concrete) has been doing it for a long time, never asking to be spotlighted for his works."

WHAT: Will be recognized with Community Spirit Awards, presented by the Board of Trustees of Gavilan College. The awards were created in 1999 through Board Resolution 739, in order to promote and recognize service to the communities Gavilan College serves. A representative committee of the campus community reviews nominations and selects the award winners. Anyone may nominate an individual, organization, or business in the community for an award. In all, three sets of awards are given out annually, in Morgan Hill. in Gilroy, and in San Benito County.
Last years winners in Morgan Hill were Julian Mancias, Morgan HIll Rotary, and Booksmart.

WHEN: Thursday, September 1, 2005, at the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce breakfast., 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m..

WHERE: Golden Oak restaurant, 16695 Condit Road, Morgan Hill
