Students can get help applying for financial aid at events at Gavilan College and local high schools

WHO: New, continuing, and future Gavilan College students, and their families

WHAT: Can get help applying for financial aid for college at "FAFSA Fridays" and "CASH for College" events at local schools. There is no cost to participate. Representatives from Gavilan College Financial Aid and CalSOAP will be available to help complete the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA), and Cal Grant GPA Verification Form. Eligible students will be able to receive tuition assistance for college through the Cal Grant Competitive and Entitlement Programs. Students should bring relevant documents to the workshops: Social Security Card and Drivers License, (or government issued identification), parents' Social Security Cards (if dependent), students' and parents' 2004 Federal Tax Forms or W2 forms, Statement of Income or Benefits received in 2004 (student and parent), current balance of checking/savings accounts (student and parents) and Records of Value for Business/Investments/Assets (student and parent.)

WHEN & WHERE:
FAFSA Fridays at Gavilan College: 10 - 2 p.m. in the Student Center, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., on January 14 and 28, and February 4, 11, and 25.
CASH for College: Gilroy High School College and Career Center, 5p.m. - 8 p.m. January 19; San Benito High School College and Career Center, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. February 1, and Live Oak High School Counseling and Career Center, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. February 17.

WHY: Community College fees have increased over the past two years, making it more important for many students to get help paying for college. Many students do not realize they may be eligible for financial aid for college, and never apply. Others may find the forms difficult to fill out. The FAFSA Fridays and CASH for College events will help students to complete applications and find out if they are eligible for tuition assistance.
