Cosmetology A.S. Degree

This degree is not for transfer majors.

Cosmetology is a 1600 hour course of study designed to meet the State of California Cosmetology Act Standards for state licensing. Gavilan College offers the required hours in a four module sequence of classes.

Students who have received the Cosmetology Certificate may achieve associate’s degree level credit by completing supplemental coursework that meets the rigor and critical thinking requirements of the Associate of Science degree. See a cosmetology instructor or counselor for details.

Cosmetology Certificate of Completion

Completion of the courses listed will qualify students for the Certificate of Completion in Cosmetology. To qualify for the California State Board of Cosmetology license a student must have a minimum of 1,600 hours of instruction. Courses are offered primarily during the day.

Students receiving the certificate will have job entry skills for the following occupations:

Beauty culturist, cosmetician, cosmetologist, manicurist, salon owner or manager, stylist

Esthetician * Certificate of Completion

This certificate will prepare students for the State examination for a license as a licensed Esthetician (Facialist).
